Avoid cleaners containing silicone or petroleum distillates, as these can degrade the clear coat and cause chemical clouding over time.

Weak flippers usually stem from mechanical friction or electrical resistance. Inspect the flipper linkage for 'mushroomed' plungers and worn nylon bushings. Additionally, check the End-of-Stroke (EOS) switches for carbon buildup; high resistance at this contact point prevents the high-power winding of the solenoid from engaging fully, resulting in sluggish ball movement.

Most traditional arcade style pinball machine CPU boards use AA or nickel-cadmium batteries to retain high scores and settings. Over time, these leak alkaline fluids that corrode copper traces and integrated circuit sockets. Professional technicians recommend installing remote battery packs or NVRAM (Non-Volatile RAM) to permanently eliminate the risk of acid damage to the logic board.

Switch failures are often caused by misaligned leaf switches or oxidized opto-sensors. Use the machine's built-in diagnostic 'Switch Test' mode to identify the specific matrix row or column failure. If a whole row is out, the issue is likely a broken wire or a failed diode on the playfield; if a single switch fails, it usually requires manual gapping or cleaning with a business card.

Rubber rings lose elasticity and accumulate 'black dust' from friction. While surface cleaning with isopropyl alcohol can extend life briefly, rubbers should be replaced annually in high-traffic settings. Brittle or cracked rubber fails to provide the correct kinetic bounce, which alters the intended game physics and can lead to ball traps or playfield damage.

Solenoid burnout occurs when a drive transistor 'locks on,' keeping the coil energized until it melts. This is often caused by a shorted flyback diode on the coil itself. Regularly inspect coils for discolored wrappers and ensure that the correct fuse ratings are installed; never over-fuse a circuit, as this removes the primary protection for the expensive driver board.
